Installation and Activation

How to install WFP, account requirements, and steps to activate your license before starting the app.

Supported Platforms and Requirements

  • Platforms

    • macOS native: Apple Silicon or Intel Mac with macOS 14.0+.

    • Windows native: Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) or later, or Windows 11, 64-bit.

    • Web on Desktop: Modern desktop browser with WebAssembly support. Use a recent version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari on macOS, Windows or Linux.

      • Web on Mobile is not officially supported, mainly due to limited screen space and keyboard constraints. While the app can load if the user requests the desktop version on a mobile device, we recommend using it in read-only mode only. Note that the current version requires a keyboard with at least a Shift key (to rotate a sign face) and a Space key (for panning).

    • Tablets: Support is under evaluation.

    • Smartphones: No support planned.

  • Hardware: A discrete GPU is optional but highly recommended.

  • Internet: Required for authentication and licensing.

  • Account: A valid VLANSCO Techlabs user account. Create one on the VLANSCO website.

Installation

  • macOS native

    1. Download the signed .dmg installer for your system (Intel or Apple Silicon) from the downloads page.

    2. Double-click the .dmg file to mount it.

    3. Drag the Wayfinding Planner app to your Applications folder.

    4. Launch the app.

  • Windows native

    1. Download WayfindingPlanner.appinstaller from the downloads page.

    2. Double-click to open the downloaded file in Windows App Installer and follow the prompts. App Installer downloads and verifies the signed WFP package.

    3. Launch the app.

Use the portable .exe only as a fallback if the normal installer does not work. The portable version does not receive automatic updates and cannot be silently migrated to the updater-enabled installation.

The raw .msix is the signed package consumed by Windows App Installer. It is not the normal public installation path, although compatible older direct-MSIX installations or managed deployments may use it as part of a controlled migration.

  • Web No installation or native updater is needed. Visit https://wfp.vlans.co and log in with your VLANSCO credentials.

Updating WFP

WFP 1.4.0 is the first public release that can notify native-app users about available updates. If you use WFP 1.3.x or earlier, install WFP 1.4.0 manually once using current download for your platform.

macOS Updates

WFP checks for updates automatically every 24 hours. To check immediately, choose Help → Check for Updates....

Silent automatic installation is disabled by default. When an update is available, review it and choose Install and Relaunch. You may opt into standard automatic-install option if you prefer.

If the current project has unsaved changes when an update needs to relaunch WFP, the normal Save / Don't Save / Cancel dialog remains in control. Saving or choosing Don't Save allows installation to continue; Cancel keeps WFP open and postpones the update.

Windows Updates

Windows App Installer owns update checks, prompts, downloads, verification, and installation. WFP does not provide Check for Updates menu item in its Windows version.

App Installer checks when WFP launches, at most once every 24 hours. When it finds an update, it shows Windows prompt without blocking you from launching WFP.

If you have a compatible older installation made directly from an .msix, open current WayfindingPlanner.appinstaller once to establish the stable update source.

If you use the portable .exe, install the App Installer version separately. The two versions may coexist until you verify that the updater-enabled installation opens your projects correctly; you can then remove the portable copy.

License Management

Activation

To use the app you must have a VLANSCO Techlabs account and an active subscription or trial.

  1. Open the app.

    • Web: Log in with your VLANSCO credentials when prompted. An activation dialog will appear.

    • macOS or Windows: Launch the app normally.

  2. Click Activate License.

  3. If prompted, log in with your VLANSCO credentials in the browser window that opens (https://accounts.vlans.co).

    • If you are signed in with a different account, log out first by going to your profile at VLANSCO Techlabs website and then log back in with the correct credentials.

  4. Wait for the progress indicator and success confirmation.

  5. Click Continue to the app to close the dialog and begin using the application.

Manage Activations

Use Manage Activations when you need to review the devices linked to your license or release an activation from a device you no longer use.

  1. Open the license or account menu in WFP.

  2. Choose Manage Activations.

  3. Review the active devices linked to your account.

  4. Deactivate any device you no longer need.

  5. Return to WFP and activate the current device if prompted.
